You would have often come across bucket lists that say, “Things to do when you are 20” and “Places to visit before turning 30”. It doesn’t mean that you will find a board saying “Turn back if you are 40”. When it comes to backpacking to the sweet Seven Sisters of incredible India, you need not hold any such apprehensions as the sheer beauty of breathtaking landscapes will be a promising feast for the senses.

PLANNING TO TREK IN INDIA? THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD PACK YOUR BAG!

With its magnificent range of mountains and extraordinary beauty, India is indeed a great choice for trekking. On the one hand, trekking in India can be great fun, while on the other hand, it can be extremely challenging. So, are you prepared for this breathtaking adventure?
Seems you are confused about how you should pack your bag!
Don’t worry, you managed to end up in the right place. We can help you!

First of all…….relax!

A trekking trip needs patience and so does packing a bag.

To properly pack your bag is a crucial step in any trekking trip. After all, it’s not a trip to your aunt’s home. You’re about to travel across the mountains and it does need some planning.

Properly packing your bag not only minimizes effort but also makes your entire trip a lot easier.

Firstly, what should you carry on your trekking trip?

Comfortable clothes, thermal inners, and headgears to keep you warm and              comfy
A head torch
Windcheaters
Water bottle and dry snacks
Walking poles
Your own first-aid kit
Hats and sunscreens
Gloves
Hiking shoes and socks
Sunglasses
Trekking poles
Bug repellants and sprays
Other basic accessories like tissue paper, watch, soap, towel, toothbrush, etc

How should we pack them?

The primary trick is to keep it light. For a trek, your bag shouldn’t weigh more than 12 kgs. So you should preferably buy light equipment and trekking gear.

Now, get a light backpack with a lot of pockets.
  • Do not pack more than you need. Research about the materials you can easily get on your trek site and camps. Overpacking won’t solve the problem. It will only burden you more.

  • Layout everything you may possibly need or want to carry on the trip. This way you won’t miss out on any necessary item. Also, it will give you a clear idea about what you should carry and what you shouldn’t.

  • There should be a proper distribution of the heavy and light elements to maintain the balance.

  • The lightest gears, the ones you wouldn’t need frequently should be at the bottom. You can pack your clothes, sleeping bags, and shoes at the bottom.

  • The most used equipment should occupy the top portion, so you can easily access them. You can include hats, windcheaters, raincoats, head torch in this section.

  • Stuff the breakable items in the middle portion in between the other items. The electronic gadgets like cameras, phones, power banks, batteries are better stuffed in the middle.

  • Keep your snacks, water bottle, torch, sunglasses, first-aid kits, maps, etc in the outer pockets.

  • The walking poles and water bottles can be adjusted in the side-pockets.
If you are an amateur, I would suggest you try packing and unpacking your back several times before the trekking day. This way your mind will have a clear idea of where your belongings are. Also, unpacking and repacking would no longer remain an annoying task for you.
